Present review gives the assessment of Pharmaceutical sector of Nepal - Current scenario and future challenges. In Nepal there are currently 45 modern medicine manufacturing companies with about 5000 products. Nepalese companies occupy 41% share of Nepalese market of medicine. Drug act 1978 encompasses introductory and general framework in regulatory aspects of medicines. The department of drug administration is solely the regulatory authority in Nepal. It is distressing that the guidelines and policies have not been implemented properly and the efforts are not sufficient to address the pace and dimensions of unethical practices in trade and promotions of medicines. In this paper, pharmaceutical aspects regarding regulations and trade in Nepal are being highlighted. An emphasis is given to the pressing needs and challenges of Nepalese pharmaceutical sector in complying with the international standards and guidelines. The government, regulatory authorities and indeed pharmacy professionals should realize the current scenario of pharmacy administration in Nepal and therefore stand in a position to address the challenges and prepare for the future outcomes....
